PRESSURE...

I had a little ask me if I would be putting stuff on the blog today! I said, "I think so...I try to put something on there most days."  He said, "Oh, GOOD, I really like looking at the blog!" I love to hear that it is a tool you all can use to talk about what is going on in first grade! And I think the littles feel important when they can see themselves on the computer!

We practiced our spelling this morning by putting them into sentences.  Not only did we practice writing them but we also made sure that our sentences had capital letters, spaces and punctuation.  The words we checked for spelling were on our word wall OR they could be spelling using the rime of the word!  (such as man using can, or bike using like).  Then we did glue, rainbow write, write! Everyone should have put that in their take home folder so that they could practice tonight!  We did discuss that the "fancy" a was only for reading not for writing!

Then we reviewed P.I.E.  We are really good at that now...so we put a little pie chart into our response journal just in case we need to refer back to it at a later time! I didn't take a picture...oops...

Our independent reading is going pretty good. Today we had to practice a couple of times though because we had some friends that forgot to use whisper voices, stay in their spot or were playing with something instead of reading their book! But being up to 8 minutes...I'm pretty proud of them!

We introduced Buddy Reading today! YAY...everything's better with a friend! We talked about what our looks like sounds like chart might say. We decided that the LOOKS LIKE side would be EXACTLY the same...respecting our books, reading books, sitting in our spot, and listing to each other read!!! The sounds like side might be a little different because now we are reading TO someone and TALKING about those books that we are reading!  We talked about some questions we might ask our buddy..."What is your favorite part and WHY?"  That why is very important and using text to self/ text to world or text to text connections and/or TEXT proof. We need to move beyond, "because it's funny!"

We also talked about sitting EEKK!!!! (That's Elbow to Elbow Knee to Knee)
That way everyone can hear and see!!!

Problem Solving:
Another great day!  Today's problem was MUCH like we  have been doing this week.  Organizing our data and then explaining how many we have and how we know that!  (once again...moving past just the ANSWER!)  I have explained that because I ask, "How do you know that? or Tell/show me how  you got that answer." Does NOT mean they are wrong...we are seeing that there may be lots of correct ways to get to an answer and OUR way may just be helpful to someone else's understanding!

Here is our problem of the day!!! This one says, "10 and 10 and 3 more"  Great job!

Thanks to these two for being great models as well!!!

This afternoon...we practiced for our Drill Day Practices... Just to make sure we knew where to go and what to do!! I think we are ready!

Next week is COLLEGE WEEK...

I will be posting my road to where I am now...throughout the week. I will ask the littles if they know something about what I posted...we will have some rewards...Like eat lunch in the classroom for those that know the answer...or shoes off...something little but different!

Love,
Ms. Guy
