Littles need to wear:
SPEAR-It Sprint T shirt (Long sleeves underneath if chilly in the morning)
P.E. Attire and shoes.

Littles need to bring:
A lunch we will be eating in the classroom when we return

So....Today...
This morning we continued our AMAZING fable discoveries...Some of the observations these littles make just BLOW ME AWAY!
Today we watched...

The moral: Gentle Persuasion is stronger than force.

Fables are:
  • Boring (opinion)
  • Pretty Short
  • Old
  • Valuable (this was such an AMAZING observation...when I asked why they were valuable the response was..."Because we can learn from them.") How crazy smart is ThAT?
Characters can be...
  • animals that are human like
  • objects that are human like
Fables...
  • teach us lessons
    • Belling the Cat: Be bold enough to solve a problem
    • The North Wind and the Sun: A kind, calm and respectful person will get things done
After watching and talking about fables and adding to our chart from yesterday we talked about the moral.  We decided that the moral was the most important part of the fable...so we thought about how we could connect with THAT part of the story.

We changed the Sun to Susie Sun and said that she was a kind, calm and respectful student.
We changed the North Wind to a disrespectful, crazy and mean student.

When asked who they thought would get help or get to do things first they said Susie Sun! So, if we wanted  someone to be our friend or pick us to do things...we needed to be a kind person. I think the thoughts these littles have  are WONDERFUL!  I love our class discussions!

As they moved to independent reading...I reminded them to look for ways they can CONNECT with their text to help them remember what the story is about!

There are a lot of Aesop's Fables on youtube...feel free to watch and disuss with your little as a homework option!  See what kind of connections they can make to help them understand the moral!

This afternoon our VERY SPECIAL STUDENT had a very SPECIAL DAY...
