Manic Monday

Well, we started the week off kind of crazy and have some other stuff this week that are going to throw us for a loop.
Today, we had a reading consultant in for some wonderful PD...but that meant the fireballs headed to specials at 8:00 and then were split among the other classrooms until 10:00.  The teachers are very excited to have Mrs. McAdams in to take our guided reading to the next level!

Once, I returned I did manage to slip in a reading mini lesson before heading outside for recess. This week we are going to look at the structure of the genre fiction.  Today we took a story we all knew really well.  We talked about there being characters, a setting, a problem, a beginning, middle and and a conclusion.  We added this structure to our readers response journals.  Tomorrow we will talk more about how we can use what we know about fiction to help us set our purposed for reading that story!

Today in problem solving we focused on making a connection to the problem.  We talked in depth that the connection needed to help us remember the problem so that we can solve it.    And then we started generating numbers that are greater than another.  Generating was the EASY part..."explaining HOW they knew it was greater"  was the HARD part.  Some of these little fireballs are JUST that..."I know that 30 has 3 tens and 19 only has one so 30 has to be greater!"  25 is greater than 21. "Well, they are kind of the same...they both have 2 tens BUT 5 ones is more than 1 one!"  YAY...so using that place value to help us compare and tell why numbers are greater or less than!

This week in Writing we will focus on our role as a writing partner.  Before and After writing!

We have a new VIP Cowgirl!!!

I'm excited to learn more about this sweet girl!!!
