Happy Friday

This {short} week has been a whirlwind!

First let me start by saying once again this class is A-MAZ-ING!!! They got their second party in music before anyone else in the school AND when Mrs. Dunning had a substitute she left a note saying the lightning bolts were her BEST class of the day!

We haven't been to Celebration of Learning {yet}...but I've heard through the grapevine that there might be a few or A LOT...of lightning bolts getting awards from the specials teachers! Makes a teacher PROUD!

This week...
In reading we continued to talk about characters. However, we took it a step further and started to look at how the characters changed throughout the book and why that change  took place.  We continued to read some Tacky books (thanks Kate...I used my gift card to buy all that I could find) and we noticed that Tacky's character traits didn't change much but his COMPANIONS often go through change...they welcome Tacky...they get annoyed with Tacky for being so odd...then they realize that Tacky is odd but a good bird to have around. We did notice in Tacky and the Winter Games that Tacky's clothes change throughout the book...when he becomes part of team he has to wear the uniform!

Independent/Buddy Reading
We all got new books this week in our book boxes as well as in Guided reading. Today we got into pairs with someone from our guided reading group.  It was SUCH a JOY to watch these little discuss and read with one another.  Some groups even found and recorded small moments or character traits in their response journals!  I am always loving when they apply what they have learned!

Math
Well...we are starting to tell time. We practiced our skip counting as an introduction...hmmm....I asked the littles what came in pairs or groups of twos...we had lots of examples...eyes, ears, shoes, hands, feet.  WE counted how many eyes we had in our classroom. When I asked what came in groups of 10 we had to think a bit harder...but finally came up with fingers and toes.  WE counted by 10s the number of fingers we had in our classroom...WOW we certainly went past 120! Groups of 5 posed the biggest challenge. (I think t-shirts or socks might come in pkgs of 5...) but finally we decided one hand of fingers and one foot of toes...DING DING DING...that one hand of fingers was going to come in handy for telling time!

Our littles are responsible for telling time to the hour and half hour...but ONCE they get started it's hard to hold them back!  Feel FREE to start helping them tell time.  I remember how badly I wanted a watch.  A digital one would have been GREAT...BUT NOOOOOO...I had THAT parent.  Before my dad would buy me a watch...he took me to SOME store that had a MILLION {well, maybe not that many} clocks hanging on the wall...each set to a different time of course!  I had to be able to read each one of them AND THEN I could get a watch. I know there are digital clocks everywhere...but if and when you see an analog...let your little give it a go!  Short hand first then Long hand!

Super STAr STudent!

Love this little and so happy his family was here to eat with him!!!
